University structure

The head of the University is the Rector. The Rector delegates some of the Rector´s powers to the vice-rectors, the registrar and the deans. The basic components of the university are faculties. They create and implement study programmes and perform pedagogical, scientific, artistic and other creative activities, for which the dean of the faculty is responsible. Similar activities are carried out also by the university institutes, headed by directors.

Faculties consist of departments or institutes, with powers given by law and the UWB status. A department or institute is a basic unit for pedagogical and scientific work. Each department shares its teaching and expertise with all university faculties. Scientific work is an inseparable part of its activities.
